Legacy Wood Products and Environmental Stewardship

A Legacy Green Initiative

Legacy manufactures tens of thousands of crates each year. We employ some of the top designers and craftsmen in the crating industry. We run multiple shifts and have a wealth of experience which allows us to provide crates that range from highly specialized custom crates to high volume production crates.

As one of the top producers of custom crating products. Legacy consumes a significant amount of wood in the production of these crates. However, we only use lumber harvested from tree farms, and no indigenous trees are cut down to make the lumber we use. All of our wood is also 100% compliant with the International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15 (ISPM 15) to prevent the international transport and spread of disease and insects that could negatively affect plants or ecosystems.

Along with carefully sourcing and inspecting our wood we also make wood waste reduction a priority in our design program. This reduces the amount of wood consumed and allows us to be even more competitive in our pricing. 100% of the wood that we do not use in the production of crates is sent to a recycler and used in the manufacture of other wood based products.

Legacy strongly believes we have a responsibility to our customers, our communities and our planet to take steps that help ensure a cleaner and brighter tomorrow, and we are committed to the responsible use of our natural resources.

Legacy Protects Your Sensitive Products with Climate Control Trailers

Legacy has a fleet of specialized climate controlled trailers for temperature sensitive shipments. You can specify the temperature and humidity range to be maintained during the entire trip. These units are specially equipped to control and continuously monitor the climate inside the trailer.

These trailers are equipped with climate control units as well as electronic sensors inside the trailer to keep tabs on interior environmental conditions. These sensors monitor, record and document temperature and humidity readings, then communicate this data to a satellite every 15 minutes. This information is tracked at Legacy and also is available to the customer. The sensors have a built-in warning system that will send an email and a text message to a cell phone if the environmental conditions fall out of the specified range. The driver is immediately notified to make necessary corrections.

These specialized trailers are used for transporting items such as fine art, high value collectibles and sensitive medical, aerospace or other electronic equipment. They are also used for transporting fine wine collections. Recently Legacy transported a large fine wine collection where the temperature was maintained between 68 and 72 degrees during several days of transit…and mission accomplished!

Do you have a need for a climate controlled trailer? Legacy also offers climate controlled storage at our Chicago facility. Please contact your account rep for more info or contact us here. If you prefer, we can be reached at 800-827-0900.

Should you Ship Your Trade Show Properties to the Advanced Warehouse or Direct to Show Site?

Legacy can help you decide which choice is best for you. There are PROS and CONS to both methods:

Shipping to the Advanced Warehouse - PROS:
  • Your shipment will receive priority delivery to show site
  • If properties are coming from a previous show, Advanced allows free storage for 30 days. This eliminates having to send freight back or to a storage facility and shipping it out a second time – less handling and less cost.
  • You can schedule your labor start time knowing your booth should be there

Shipping to the Advanced Warehouse – CONS:
  •  Drayage rates can be higher because of double handling
  •  Higher risk of damage because of double handling
  •  Less prep time before show
  •  No pad wrapped or loose freight can be sent to the Advanced Warehouse

Shipping Direct to Show Site – PROS:
  • Interstate shipments utilizing Unigroup Logistics/Legacy Transportation will not incur waiting time charges!
  • Less handling of freight so less chance of damage
  • More prep time before show
  • Can ship pad wrapped and loose freight direct to show site
  • Drayage rates can be lower without double handling

Shipping Direct to Show Site – CONS:
  • No guaranteed delivery time to your booth site so it's more difficult to schedule labor, because wait time can be very difficult to predict
  • Wait time fees can vary drastically and cannot be planned in advance (note: wait fee is waived on interstate shipments using Unigroup Logistics/Legacy Transportation)

Contact a Legacy customer service rep at 800-297-0990 to help you decide which option is best for your company, your show and shipment.

Something Heavy to Lift?

Legacy's fleet of forklifts includes 3 very heavy lift vehicles. These heavy duty lifts include 15,000 lb, 30,000 lb and 36,000 lb capacity units (shown here). These forklifts can handle Legacy's client needs, from oversized medical equipment to spacecraft components to a 40' ocean container and more. They help with moving, loading and rigging projects.

To operate lifts this large, a special certification is required. Legacy has many drivers, riggers and warehouse staff members trained and certified to drive and operate these very large units, so we can handle your biggest job. We'd like to try your challenge!
